Summary: The trends are predicted and next season is looking vivacious and this is how. Here are the biggest trends spotted on runways during fashion month that are about to be everywhere next season. From transparent designs to all-over denim fits, Spring/Summer 2023 is daring, delightful, and anything but boring. We've highlighted the key design trends that you need to know of.

The Fashion Weeks have laid it all out! Spring/Summer 2023 collections are looking fresh and fiery with reimagined retro themes and iconic tech-driven showcases. As the fashion world’s most coveted brands displayed their eclectic SS/23 collections, it has shone a light on the key trends that are going to be everywhere in the wake of next year.

Here’s every major trend in womenswear that is making headlines and are about to blow up on the fashion scene this upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 season.

Transparent & Sheer Numbers Alongside Exposed Lingerie

A majority of all the SS/23 runway shows had transparent designs and that makes it one of the biggest trends for the upcoming season. Brands like Chanel, Valentino, and Ferragamo displayed transparent designs while brands like Prada and Miu Miu also featured lingerie beneath their sheer designs. Here’s a glimpse at the transparent trend with Emily Ratajkowski showing off a maroon gown with a sheer bust design backstage at the Nensi Dojaka showcase.

Denim On Denim In A Variety Of Textures & Washes

Denim has made a comeback in the high fashion scene with several big names building their collections around the durable fabric. Burberry, Blumarine, and Courreges featured denim on denim with distressed cuts, acid washes, true blue colors, and more.

The Diesel SS/23 show was also one of the most innovative with the trend as it featured pieces with denim lace, denim devoré, denim knits, and even had denim treated with solarised techniques. With dark washes, acid washes, and imitation denim, the classic casual fabric has made its mark on the SS/23 runways.

Leather On Blast: Everything From Structured Coats To Evening Gowns

Leather jackets and even all-leather outfits are here to stay this Spring/Summer of 2023. Biker-themed designs were spotted on the runway at the Gucci, Ottolinger, and Courreges shows. Brands like Saint Laurent made a more classic case for leather design pieces by paying tribute to the 1950s and 1960s coat trends which are the decades when leather jackets were first popularized.

Noughties fashion trends are stronger than ever and their influence gets even more gripping in the upcoming SS/23 season. Versace, KNWLS, and Courreges have their collections reflecting the edgiest looks from these decades. The color palette for most of the noughties-inspired showcases was grungy and dark-themed. Some of the shows like Diesel featured the noughties trends with light-washed denim.

Form Fitted Designs Crafted Live On Stage With Pioneering Technology

Everyone saw the iconic moment when Bella Hadid opened for the Coperni show with a sprayed-on dress. The 25-year-old supermodel stepped on stage in just nude lingerie and then the fabric was sprayed on and then cut into a classic white midi dress. This moment broke the internet, and the innovative fabric used was Fabrican. This was the most tech-driven couture moment of SS/23. Other designers who also featured futuristic and tech-themed looks were Loewe, Koché, Miu Miu, and JW Anderson amongst others.

Oversized & Relaxed Fits For Cool, Laidback Fashionistas

Wide-leg pants, oversized jackets, and cargos were everywhere across brands at the SS/23 showcases. This shift to more relaxed fitted garments is revolutionary and makes runway trends more wearable so that they can easily be adopted into street style as well as everyday business casual ensembles. Designers who made the most of the trend were Victoria Beckham, Fendi, and Dries Van Noten. Erdem presented a unique collection featuring oversized looks but with a historical spin to it. The collection paid a respectful homage to Queen Elizabeth.

Color Codes: Pale Pastels and Bold Cobalt

Over half of the entirety of showcases at Fashion Week had pastels as the color palette in their collections. And this also marked the decrease in bold color trends on the runways for Spring/Summer. Designers who brought pastels to life on SS/23 runways were Givenchy, Jil Sander, and Victoria Beckham, amongst others.

On the flip side, one bold color blew up on the runways and that was Cobalt. Calling it New Cobalt, designers presented renditions of this blue hue in all its glory and the results are breathtaking. The likes of Rokh and Jason Wu displayed new cobalt alongside a neutral color palette; the designs had the blue hue juxtaposed with beige, white, black, tan, and so on. The Off-White show, the brainchild of late designer Virgil Abloh, also featured new cobalt along with neutral white and black looks, but he gave the electrifying color more room with designs that solely displayed the hue from head to toe.

These Spring/Summer 2023 fashion trends are out of the box and can be easily added to one's wardrobe. Make note of them all because they are about to blow up on the fashion scene next season.

Key Takeaway:

  • Bold colors and color blocking are being replaced by pastel hues and transparent neutral designs
  • The only vibrant color predicted to be the color for Spring/Summer 2023 is the new cobalt The spotlight on classic durable fabrics like denim and leather is evident, and they are some of the biggest trends that will even take over the street style scene.
